Kid's Meditation & Gentle Movement
In this intro to meditation class, kids will learn how to sit in a meditation seat while bringing awareness to their breath. Meditation is a tool to help kids learn how to quiet the mind and create a calmer body and mind. We will also practice some gentle movement.
Meeghan Passer completed a 15-month Yogic Meditation Immersion program through Devanadi Yoga & Wellness in Minneapolis. Her daily meditation practice helps her connect with stillness, silence, and the rhythm of her breath. Through yoga, she supports her body’s natural alignment and flow. Meeghan finds great joy in teaching meditation to children and delights in sharing mindfulness practices in ways that are playful, calming, and accessible. She brings a warm, grounded presence to every class and loves helping kids discover the peace within.

Arts & Craft Supply Swap
Join Us for Our Monthly Swap Series: Secondhand Sundays on the Second Sunday of the Month!
This month, we’re swapping art and craft supplies!
Bring any surplus art and/or craft supplies that have been collecting dust and swap them out for something new to you! No need to bring items to take items, there's always plenty to go around.
How It Works:
Bring your gently-used arts and craft supplies in good condition.
Set out your items on the tables, where they will be displayed alongside items from other participants.
Take what you need; everything on the tables is free to take, no direct exchanges required! Feel free to browse and pick up anything that catches your eye.
This isn’t a traditional swap meet where you trade items one-to-one; instead, it’s a chance to share and receive freely, creating a fun and community-driven atmosphere.
At the end of the swap, any remaining supplies will be thoughtfully donated to support local non-profit organizations. So, not only are you refreshing your stash, but you're also giving back to the creative community! It’s a win-win-win situation!
We will have tables for the following categories:
Drawing & Painting (e.g. pencils, markers, paints, brushes, etc.)
Paper & Cardstock (e.g. construction paper, watercolor paper, patterned paper, card stock, etc.)
Fabric & Textiles (e.g. felt, cotton, embroidery floss, yarn, etc.)
Adhesives & Tools (e.g. all glues, tape, epoxy, scissors, craft knives, etc.)
“Decorative Elements” (e.g. fake flowers, stickers, glitter, tiny animals, etc.)
Started But Incomplete Projects (e.g. half done cross stich, cloth pieces cut out but not sewn together, etc.)
OTHER (anything that doesn’t fit into the above categories).
Bringing your own bags to take home your goodies is a great idea!

Pumpkin Painting
Pumpkin Painting Crafternoon at the Co-op! 🎃
Get into the fall spirit with a fun, family-friendly Pumpkin Painting morning at the co-op! This event is for all ages and everyone is welcome!
What to Expect:
Pumpkins: We’ll provide the pumpkins (or feel free to bring your own small pumpkin or gourd if you’d like).
Paint & Supplies: We’ll have all the paints, brushes, glitter, and other craft materials you need to make your pumpkin as spooky, sweet, or creative as you’d like.
Feel free to get as creative as you want, no skill level required! Our co-op community space will be buzzing with artistic energy, perfect for families, friends, and anyone who wants to enjoy some autumn fun.

Grocery Democracy with Jon Steinman
GROCERY DEMOCRACY: Rise of the “Citizen-Consumer”
As democracy claims center stage in national discourse—especially where economic interests and public institutions intersect—cooperatives are uniquely positioned to respond. In fact, they were built for moments like this.
In this inspiring talk, author Jon Steinman will explore how food co-ops serve as living laboratories of democratic engagement and as models for economic participation rooted in values, not just transactions.
Drawing from over 20 years of experience, Steinman will demystify what co-op membership truly means and why it matters today more than any time in recent history.
The talk will remind us how in stark contrast to growing consolidation in food supply chains, individual consumers are not consolidated and largely unorganized. As Equal Exchange co-founder Rink Dickinson says; “As long as consumers stay unorganized, their power is questionable, but this group is the sleeping giant.”
Steinman will call attention to the consolidated citizen-consumers found at food cooperatives, examining democratic challenges and misses at food co-ops, and the untapped opportunities that remain to awaken this ‘sleeping giant’.
JON STEINMAN is the author of Grocery Story: The Promise of Food Co-ops in the Age of Grocery Giants (New Society Publishers). Before narrowing his focus on grocery, Jon was the producer and host of the internationally-syndicated radio show and podcast Deconstructing Dinner, once ranked as the most-listened-to food podcast in Canada, and was writer and host of Deconstructing Dinner: Reconstructing our Food System – a television and web series. He lives in Nelson, British Columbia.
We will serve light refreshments beginning at 5:30pm.
This event is free to attend, but space is limited so please let us know you are coming.

We're excited to announce a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and accessibility within our community. In line with our commitment to equity, we're transitioning to a sliding-scale pricing model for our yoga classes. This change reflects our dedication to making wellness practices accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, while still being able to compensate our instructors fairly.
What is Sliding Scale Pricing? Sliding scale pricing allows individuals to choose a price point for our classes based on their financial means. By offering a range of prices, we aim to accommodate a diverse range of budgets while ensuring the sustainability of our offerings.
Why Sliding Scale? We recognize that financial barriers can hinder access to wellness practices. By implementing sliding scale pricing, we hope to remove these barriers and create an inclusive space where everyone feels welcome and valued, while still being able to compensate our instructors.
How It Works: When registering for our classes, you'll have the option to select a price point that aligns with your financial situation. We ask that you be mindful of the limited spaces available at each price point to ensure fairness and accessibility for all in our community. Please be mindful of the resources required to sustain our offerings as you make your selection.
Our community room has limited seating, and many of our events and classes sell out. For this reason, we request that you cancel at least 3 days before your scheduled event or class. This will allow us to offer your spot to another participant. You may e-mail us at info@eastsiefood.coop to cancel.

For the last 21 years I have been creating, teaching, and exploring the craft of crop art.
My first exposure to crop art came after I moved to Minnesota to attend the U of MN in 1995.
The State Fair and especially the crop art exhibit quickly became a favorite and a must see for me each year.My background in fine arts gave me the confidence to finally give it a try and Iʼve been hooked ever since. The main focus of my pieces have been portraits of individuals that I admire, with an emphasis on capturing their likeness working in exclusively natural colored seeds.
I would go on to enter multiple pieces in the State Fair in these last 21 years, win a number of ribbons, and create a multitude of commissioned crop art pieces.
My work has been featured in multiple publications including VitaMN Magazineʼs State Fair issue, annually from 2007-2013, earning me an award of excellence from the Society of News Design in 2010.
Other publications include Edible Twin Cities, Growler Magazine and Uppercase Quarterly.
In addition to having my works featured in print, I have had the opportunity to teach crop art to a whole new generation of Fair lovers.
My workshops and classes include events held at The Walker Arts Center, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Hennepin History Museum and Marine Mills Folk School. Most recently I worked along side the U of MN CFANS to design and create an interactive crop art map which was completed with the help of fair goers during the 2022 State Fair.
My work has been included in multiple gallery shows including Vevang Studios,Hennepin History Museum’s Home Grown exhibit, and most recently Rosalux Gallery.
I have a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University where I studied sculpture and printmaking and later earned an MFA here at the U of MN studying costume and set design.
