Annex Teen Clinic

The Annex Teen Clinic focuses on holistic sexual health and is uniquely positioned to combat food insecurity among its primarily low-income, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ youth clientele because they already serve as a trusted resource for comprehensive care. The clinic provides equitable, confidential sexual health services, youth leadership development, and technical assistance to nonprofits, schools, and health systems.

Recognizing that food insecurity is a critical issue among its patients, the Annex integrates food support into its healthcare services to address broader needs and promote overall well-being. Serving over 1,700 young people annually, the clinic conducts surveys revealing food as a top self-identified need, alongside menstrual products and diapers, which are often inaccessible through government programs like WIC and SNAP.

The Annex distributes food, menstrual products, and diapers during clinical visits, while also facilitating referrals to local food shelves and assistance programs. By meeting these basic needs, the clinic enhances physical health, supports mental and emotional well-being, and fosters a more inclusive community environment. Their approach aims to reduce stigma, anxiety, and depression associated with food insecurity and access to essential products, empowering youth to participate fully in daily life.

By leveraging their trusted position in the community and their commitment to removing health access barriers, the Annex Teen Clinic continues to drive solutions that address disparities and build resilience among youth in North Minneapolis and Northwest Hennepin County.
