BIPOC Foodways Alliance
BIPOC Foodways Alliance celebrates and shares stories from historically marginalized communities through the powerful lens of food, fostering unity across cultural divides. Unlike traditional food media that often spotlights restaurants and chefs with privilege, BFA centers on individuals with deep culinary knowledge and wisdom. Through our Table Series, we invite community co-hosts to share their stories through food, bringing together intentionally diverse groups of guests who might not otherwise gather, documenting and sharing these experiences with the broader community.
Our anchor program, the Table Series, has been successful for nearly two years, highlighting unique food legacies. Now, we seek funding to launch our Plates series, offering affordable, culturally rich meals to the public at about half the market price. This initiative aims to democratize access to authentic food experiences beyond typical restaurant fare.
At BFA, we believe everyone possesses a food story, regardless of restaurant ownership or economic means. By expanding our programming, we hope to involve more people in celebrating and preserving these invaluable cultural narratives. Our outreach spans diverse communities across the Twin Cities, including Black, Indigenous, Southeast Asian, Nigerian, East African, Chinese, Latinx, and more. Through inclusive storytelling and communal dining experiences, we strive to bridge cultural gaps and promote understanding.
Supporting BFA means supporting the preservation and sharing of BIPOC culinary traditions, promoting equity in food access, and fostering community cohesion through the universal language of food
