Sisters Camelot

Sisters’ Camelot is a collectively-run nonprofit founded in 1997 that is focused on food justice, waste reduction, sustainable living, community building, and youth education. We rescue food that would otherwise be wasted and share free organic groceries and free organic meals with our community.

Sisters' Camelot nourishes our community with free organic groceries and healthy community meals. They also help the environment by preventing food waste.

Food production is a huge generator of greenhouse gases, so we fight climate change by rescuing food that would otherwise be wasted. We avoid creating more air pollution by holding distributions on public transit lines and doing homebound household deliveries by bicycle. Food access is a critical component of social justice, including racial equity, so rescuing and distributing 6-8000 lbs/week alleviates hunger and creates a more just society. We involve the youth to keep the change going.

We are 100% volunteer-run, so our overhead is low and our use of funds is extremely efficient. However, we have unavoidable expenses necessary to acquire and distribute food. Grocery distributions incur costs such as gas, truck maintenance, stipends for DOT-certified truck drivers, and insurance. Meals incur costs such as gas, bus and kitchen equipment maintenance, propane, compostable serving supplies, insurance, and stipends for DOT-certified bus drivers and a certified food safety manager.
