Sustainable Farming Assoc.

The Sustainable Farming Association (SFA) is committed to transforming agriculture across the Midwest, one farm at a time. We envision a vibrant region where regenerative farms, rural communities, and the land flourish. We offer a range of educational resources, networking opportunities, and consulting services to rural and urban farmers and landowners. Our focus areas include grazing, dairy, cropping, silvopasture, and fruit and vegetable production.

At SFA, our cornerstone is our robust farmer-to-farmer network, supported by technical assistance, educational events, and networking groups such as the Twin Cities Metro Growers Network, which boasts over 500 members. We promote environmental stewardship, economic resilience, and strong, diverse communities through these initiatives. Our work spans decades of dedication to soil health, collaborating with farmers of various backgrounds to teach the principles and practices of soil regeneration. We pride ourselves on meeting farmers where they are, tailoring our support to their specific needs and challenges.

By facilitating peer-to-peer engagement and connecting farmers with agencies, advocates, and educational institutions, SFA drives the shift towards sustainable agriculture. We recognize the isolation and demanding nature of farming and provide crucial support structures for farmers to share knowledge, innovate practices, and access local markets.

The Seedling funds will bolster our efforts within the Twin Cities Metro Growers Network, a vital community of urban and suburban farmers, gardeners, and local food advocates. These funds will support initiatives like farm tours, workshops, and discussions that address urban agriculture challenges such as composting, land and water access, cover cropping, seed selection, and youth education. Additionally, we aim to enhance soil health education tailored for urban audiences, invite urban agricultural experts as presenters, and diversify our network’s host sites with stipends.

Through these enhancements, SFA aims to strengthen the support network for urban farmers, foster community resilience, and promote sustainable agriculture practices that benefit both the environment and our local communities.
