Friends of the Mississippi River
Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) was established in 1993 to engage people to protect, restore, and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region. Our four program areas focus on water quality and watershed health, river corridor land use and planning, land protection and restoration, and community and youth education and engagement.

Friends of the Mississippi River advances the priorities of Agriculture, Environment, and Youth in the following ways:
Agriculture: FMR co-leads the Forever Green Partnership to promote the development and adoption of sustainable, perennial, and winter annual crops to improve water quality, soil health, and farm profitability.
Environment: All of our work is in service of the ecological health of the river and surrounding communities.
Youth: FMR’s Environmental Stewardship Institute is a youth leadership development and environmental career pathways program targeting BIPOC and underserved youth.
If awarded, FMR will use the funding to advance the programs that align with the Eastside Co-op’s funding priorities, as described above. We will: 1) Advance the work of the Forever Green Partnership; 2) Protect, restore, and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed; and 3) Foster the next generation of environmental leaders through our Environmental Stewardship Institute.
