Division of Indian Work

DIW continues its vital food security and food recovery efforts in Hennepin County, focusing on supporting the urban American Indian community through the Minozekwedaa Traditional Foods Program. This initiative provides culturally specific meals to address health disparities affecting Native people disproportionately.

For over 70 years, DIW has been a cornerstone in the Native community, dedicated to enhancing well-being through culturally based education, traditional healing practices, and leadership development. Our mission centers on community empowerment and collaboration, delivering essential programs and services independently or in partnership with other organizations.

Funds sought will bolster our food security initiatives, including enhancing food recovery services with necessary packaging supplies. Additionally, resources will expand the Minozekwedaa Traditional Foods Program by procuring culturally significant foods such as hand-harvested Minnesota wild rice, bison, walleye, and ingredients for native teas.

DIW envisions thriving American Indian communities built on inherent strengths, fostering safe, healthy, and nurturing environments for all. By supporting our efforts, donors contribute directly to sustaining and expanding these critical services, ensuring that urban Native individuals and families have access to nutritious meals rooted in their cultural heritage.
