Mother's Day Gift: Spa Day at Home!
They say it's the thought that counts. Some quintessential Mother's Day gifts, including gestures like breakfast in bed, coupon books for free hugs and a car wash or a necklace made of noodles seem to prove this statement to be true. I definitely gave all of those as presents one year or another growing up.
I think this year, it would be great to give moms or any caretakers in our lives the chance for self-care and relaxation! I led a DIY body care class this winter, and I discovered my love of fizzy bath powder. I thought we would make bath bombs, but you typically have to let them harden in a mold for several hours and you can only make as many bath bombs as the number of molds you have--this wasn't exactly ideal for a 90 minutes class with about 10 participants.
After scouring the crafty corners of the internet, I learned that the ingredients in a bath bomb work just was well if they're loose rather than compressed into a sphere. You can make a big batch and separate it into smaller portions before adding essential oils for more choices for mom.
FIZZY BATH POWDER
Ingredients
1 oz Epsom salt
1.25 oz arrowroot powder*
2 oz citric acid*
5.5 oz baking soda*
1 oz cocoa butter or coconut oil, melted
15-20 drops total essential oil(s)
*these ingredients are available in our bulk section, so you can plan for a small batch or a big one!
Preparation
In a large bowl, combine the Epsom salt, arrowroot powder, citric acid and baking soda. Gently stir to combine.
Add your choice of essential oils (see below for ideas of essential oil blends) to the melted cocoa butter or coconut oil. Slowly pour wet ingredients into the large bowl, stirring or whisking as your pour. Stir fully until the wet and dry ingredients are fully incorporated with one another.
Allow the mixture to dry before packing into a 16 oz mason jar or other tightly sealed container. Be sure to label the jar! You can use label stickers or attach a tag using ribbon or raffia.
To enjoy the fizzy bath powder, simply add ¼- ½ cup to the bath after it's filled. The delightful fizzy scent will be sure to make a spa experience at home. The oils that are so moisturizing for your skin can make the tub slippery, so take care when getting out of the bath!
