North Country Food Alliance (NCFA) is a Minneapolis-based worker democracy transporting up to 30,000 lbs. of food each month between 28 partner organizations. They build and maintain community gardens and are currently developing a community meals program aimed at bringing food into the conversation about healing from trauma and lifestyle diseases. The mission of NCFA is to promote food justice by increasing access to healthy food.
NCFA increases food access by transporting fresh overstock produce and other groceries to shelters, food shelves, and soup kitchens. Their work diverts hundreds of thousands of pounds of viable veggies from landfills each year. They maintain a community garden in North Minneapolis, whose bounty is free to the community. NCFA is developing community meals programming, where community meals will be free, educational, and expose people to ideas about using food to improve their health.
