Garden Resource Hubs – A Training with Detroit
September 12-14th, 2010
Ashley Atkinson and staff from Greening of Detroit will be here for an in-depth conversation and training on implementation of “garden resource hubs" in the Twin Cities.
This project is supported by the Minneapolis Department of Health and Family Support and its Communities Putting Prevention to Work initiative of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, funded by the Minnesota Department of Health. This effort is also part of the City’s of Minneapolis’ Homegrown Minneapolis initiative.

Chicken Run ~ a clay animation adventure set in a chicken farm in Yorkshire, England. It follows the misadventures of the chickens as they make various plans and attempts to escape from the coop. This family friendly movie has wonderful visuals and is full of action, adventure and lots of fun.

Celebrate the Harvest at Gale Woods Farm
Tour the gardens and orchard, tasting the bounty the farm has produced. Watch the amazing skill of border collies and their trainers at the Star of the North Stock Dog Trials. Enjoy a wagon ride, tour the barn to meet the farm animals, and play farm games. There is also a harvest fair showcasing fiber artists, local food vendors and concessions. Ages: All.
$7/person ages 2 and up. 20% for groups of 4 or more.

Over the course of the 20th century, our food system has been co-opted by corporate forces whose interest do not lie in providing the public with fresh, healthy and sustainably-produced food. Fortunately for America, an alternative emerged from the counter-culture of California in the late 1960s and early 1970s, where a group of political anti-corporate protesters – led by Alice Waters – voiced their dissent by creating a food chain outside of the conventional system.

EFC Movie Night
William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe
Filmmakers Emily Kunstler and Sarah Kunstler explore the life of their father, the late radical civil rights lawyer. In the 1960s and 70s, Kunstler fought for civil rights with Martin Luther King Jr. and represented the famed “Chicago 8” activists who protested the Vietnam War. When the inmates took over Attica prison, or when the American Indian Movement stood up to the federal government at Wounded Knee, they asked Kunstler to be their lawyer.
