"Dialogue is a positive endeavor. It builds solidarity and creates unity . . . . [It] gives rise to trust, even among those who don't see eye to eye."
-- from Buddhism Day by Day by Daisaku Ikeda

NE Network: A monthly conversation between Northeast's organizations, businesses, educators, elected officials, police, art collectives, and various groups int he faith community. There are already so many good things going on in Northeast -- let's come together to make it even better! Help us to build a civic partnership for a stronger Northeast Minneapolis!

This month's topic: Public Safety and Community Justice

Speakers:
Doug Jewett, chief operating officer at Project for Pride in Living (PPL)
Taryn Ranck, Community Coordinator with Restorative Justice Community Action
Inspector Bryan Schafer, 2nd Precinct Commander

This is a great chance for business owners and residents alike to hear a safety update and develop a deeper understanding of how we can become involved in both crime prevention and community justice.

Sweet Land
Thursday, August 18
7-9p.m.
Eastside Food Co-op in the Granite Studio
FREE + refreshments

Sweet Land is a poignant and lyrical celebration of land, love, and the American immigrant experience. Based on Will Weaver’s short story A Gravestone Made of Wheat and shot on location in Southern Minnesota, Sweet Land is that rare independent feature that uses painterly images and understated performances to tell a universal story of love and discovery. David Tumblety’s glorious magic-hour cinematography recalls classic American art cinema like Days of Heaven, transforming the amber majesty of Southern Minnesota’s farm country into an elegiac metaphor for memory, family, and history.

Eastside Food Co-op is featured as the 2011
Business Ambassador
in this year's
Celebrate NE! Parade

Grab Your Bike and Join Us in the Parade!

As a Parade Ambassador, we are entitled to a ride in a convertible, doing our "queen" wave to the adoring crowds, but that's not really our style. . . .

So, we got special permission for our Ambassador entry in the parade to be co-op members in aprons on bikes, riding down the parade route. As in year's past, Eastside's standard bearer "Veggie Head," a papier mache puppet created by Heart of the Beast puppet theater and given to us, will lead us on a bike trailer, thanks to Brent Fuqua, owner of Recovery Bike Shop, and his fantastic crew!

The parade is a big one, and we can have only 25 bikes in our entry. Click here to sign up to bike with Eastside in the parade. We'll take the first 25 folks who sign up to ride, plus we need two folks to carry our banner! We'll send you specifics on time and location via e-mail this weekend.
